As a Syrinx editor, you receive a Pacific Publication Award or Pacific Multimedia Award scholarship and earn Journalism Practicum units. As part of an award-winning student newspaper, you will join a dynamic and supportive team of your peers. You will gain invaluable leadership experience and develop a number of professional and practical skills for media-related industries.

The News Editor is a leading storyteller at FPU. They are voracious consumers of news. They track with stories and events that impact the FPU community by cultivating relationships with a wide range of people and offices on campus including students of all kinds, administrators, faculty and staff. They are responsible for brainstorming & pitching dynamic news story ideas. The News Editor must have previous experience with, or a willingness to learn Adobe InDesign.
The Opinions Editor fosters robust and informed commentary on issues that matter to students. They bring to the Opinions section diverse opinions, voices and viewpoints from students across the university. They are responsible for brainstorming & pitching relevant ideas for the Opinions section. The Opinions Editor must have previous experience with, or a willingness to learn Adobe InDesign.
Arts & Entertainment editor
The A&E Editor keeps up with artistic events both on campus and in the broader Fresno community as well as tracking broader trends within local and global popular culture. They are responsible for brainstorming & pitching dynamic A&E story ideas. The A&E Editor must have previous experience with, or a willingness to learn Adobe InDesign.
The Copy Editor is responsible for the accuracy of the text. They edit content at the sentence level, making sure that it is free of mechanical, grammatical, factual and stylistic errors. They love details and like things to be correct. They are willing to learn AP style and enforce it with fervor. They are indispensable to the success of the newspaper, yet don't desire the spotlight.
The Graphics Editor is a visual storyteller that shapes the overall aesthetic appearance of The Syrinx. They establish the graphic standards of the paper. They must have experience as a graphic designer and possess at least some working knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. They collaborate with section editors to create original graphics & reoccurring graphic elements.
